Olympic weightlifting is a growing sector of the fitness market. A shift in fitness has seen an upsurge in the number of people lifting weights. Largely influenced by CrossFit making lifting ‘sexy’ coupled with the growth of social media platforms like Instagram, people are learning that lifting is a great addition to your training regime.
Here are five reasons why you should lift.
- You’ll look cosmetically better
Lifting will transform your physique. You’ll burn huge amounts of calories per session, promote lean muscle tissue, which in turn promotes fat loss. Lifting will also improve your posture that will reduce the risk of injury.
2. Its empowering
Watching yourself progress is empowering and the goal of a lifting programme is to get stronger, that naturally will increase the weight you lift. Basic exercises like deadlift are incredibly raw and a test of strength. Olympic movements are satisfying to coordinate and execute correctly.
3. You’ll perform better
Olympic weightlifting is the cornerstone used by Strength & Conditioning coaches in modern training regimes, why? It enhances power, speed and flexibility. A bodybuilding style ‘chest and biceps’ routine serves one purpose – to make you look better. An Olympic routine will make you perform better and consequently you’ll look better
4. It’s fun
Not only is lifting satisfying, it’s fun. You’ll enjoy your hour of throwing a barbell round more than an hour on the treadmill – give it a go for yourself.
5. Less workout time, better results
The mass amounts of calories burned, coupled with the metabolic boost means that Olympic weightlifting pound for pound is better than cardio training.
