3 reasons the squat rack is better than the treadmill
By Steve Barber
1. Increased metabolic rate
As we progress through strength training our body adapts to the stimulus by
becoming more efficient at the movement and building more muscle. When
we build more muscle, it uses up calories that we consume therefore more
muscle we have the more food we can eat that doesn’t get stored as body fat.
2. Time consumed
Anyone who has tried to lose some body fat has spent countless hours on a
treadmill or similar machines and we can all agree it sucks and its boring. when
put onto the right program you can burn the same number of calories if not a
little bit more with an intense strength session, in a fraction of the time than
we would if we were to use the treadmill and it will be a lot more fun.
Doing a squat session rather than just plodding along on a treadmill will do
more than just burn some calories and build some muscle it will also help to
strengthen tendons, ligaments and bones that usually degrade over time
causing pain and inflammation. Strength training can slow the rate of this
happening which will keep you pain free a lot longer, a benefit you wouldn’t
get on the treadmill.
