8 Week Weight Loss Week 1….how the mighty have fallen.
By Neil Perkins
My daughter chanting ‘Butt butt’ reminds me of my physical appearance. A fitness test and body fat test this week not only confirmed I’m fatter than I’ve ever been…..but also that I’m grossly de-conditioned.
Since retiring from boxing I’ve always kept myself physically fit even if my waistline told another story. At the minute I’d argue my physical fitness is worse than my appearance.
To assess a starting point, I took a standard body fat test and fitness test – the exact some protocol we use in our ‘Test & Assess’ session at the gym.
Firstly, the scales don’t lie and thankfully I’ve been heavier than I currently am, but when weight ballooned to 118kg I was lifting three times per week and I’m confident that I had a lower body fat % and more muscle mass than I do now. I currently stand at 113.5kg
The rest of the body stat isn’t such good reading as my body fat % is a whopping 25.6%. To give you an indication of my past reminds….when I boxed Howard Daley in July 2008 I weighed in 97.8kg at 13.2%, when I first moved up to heavyweight and worked with a conditioning coach and in September 2007 I weighed 101kg at 11.2% and my last championships as an amateur at 91Kg my bodyfat came in at 8%!
A type into google of ‘ideal body fat percentage for men’ produced the following data..
I am 0.4% off the obese category!!!
If the body stat was bad, the fitness test was worse.
Assault Bike 1 mile: 2.25
Press Ups in 2 mins:.32
Suspension Rows in 2 mins: 15
Burpees in 1 min: 10
I am officially unfit! I have in the past completed 42 burpees in 1 minute.
This is painful reading and a stark reality check. What it should do and what it will do is put together a good strategy and stick to it. Get ready to say bye, bye to butt, butt!
